Once upon a time, there was a fisherman and his wife.
Bio jednom ribar i njegova žena.
They lived in a small hut near the sea.
Živjeli su u maloj kolibi blizu mora.
The fisherman went to the sea every day to fish.
Ribar je svaki dan išao na more loviti ribu.
One day, he caught a magic fish.
Jednog dana ulovio je čarobnu ribu.
The fish could talk and asked to be set free.
Riba je mogla govoriti i zamolila je da je pusti na slobodu.
The fisherman put the fish back in the water.
Ribar je pustio ribu u vodu.
When he returned home, he told his wife.
Kad se vratio kući, ispričao je svojoj ženi.
She told him to ask for a nicer house.
Ona mu je rekla da zatraži bolju kuću.
The fisherman went back to the sea and called the fish.
Ribar se vratio na more i pozvao ribu.
The fish granted the wish.
Riba je ispunila želju.
Now they lived in a nice house.
Sada su živjeli u lijepoj kući.
But soon the wife wanted a palace.
Ali ubrzo je žena htjela palaču.
She asked the fisherman to talk to the fish again.
Zamolila je ribara da ponovno razgovara s ribom.
The fish gave them a big, beautiful palace.
Riba im je dala veliku, prekrasnu palaču.
They had servants and fancy clothes.
Imali su sluge i elegantnu odjeću.
But the wife still was not happy.
Ali žena još uvijek nije bila sretna.
She wanted to be empress.
Željela je biti carica.
The fisherman went to the sea with fear.
Ribar je otišao na more sa strahom.
The sea was grey and very rough.
More je bilo sivo i vrlo uzburkano.
The fish granted the wish and she became empress.
Riba je ispunila želju i ona je postala carica.
Now she had all the power.
Sada je imala svu moć.
But she wanted more. She wanted to be like God.
Ali htjela je više. Željela je biti kao Bog.
The fisherman didn’t want to ask for that, but he did.
Ribar to nije htio tražiti, ali je učinio.
The sea was black and the wind was strong.
More je bilo crno, a vjetar jak.
The fish didn’t answer anything.
Riba nije ništa odgovorila.
When the fisherman returned, the palace was gone.
Kad se ribar vratio, palača je nestala.
The wife was back in the old hut.
Žena je bila natrag u staroj kolibi.
And so they lived like at the beginning.
I tako su živjeli kao na početku.
They had lost everything for wanting too much.
Izgubili su sve zbog prevelike želje.
