1. Había una vez un pescador y su esposa.

   Once upon a time, there was a fisherman and his wife.

2. Vivían en una pequeña cabaña cerca del mar.

   They lived in a small hut near the sea.

3. El pescador iba todos los días al mar a pescar.

   The fisherman went to the sea every day to fish.

4. Un día, atrapó un pez mágico.

   One day, he caught a magic fish.

5. El pez podía hablar y pidió que lo dejara libre.

   The fish could talk and asked to be set free.

6. El pescador dejó al pez en el agua.

   The fisherman put the fish back in the water.

7. Cuando volvió a casa, le contó a su esposa.

   When he returned home, he told his wife.

8. Ella le dijo que pidiera una casa mejor.

   She told him to ask for a nicer house.

9. El pescador volvió al mar y llamó al pez.

   The fisherman went back to the sea and called the fish.

10. El pez cumplió el deseo.

    The fish granted the wish.

11. Ahora vivían en una casa bonita.

    Now they lived in a nice house.

12. Pero pronto la esposa quiso un palacio.

    But soon the wife wanted a palace.

13. Le pidió al pescador que hablara con el pez otra vez.

    She asked the fisherman to talk to the fish again.

14. El pez les dio un palacio grande y hermoso.

    The fish gave them a big, beautiful palace.

15. Tenían sirvientes y ropa elegante.

    They had servants and fancy clothes.

16. Pero la esposa todavía no estaba feliz.

    But the wife still was not happy.

17. Quería ser emperatriz.

    She wanted to be empress.

18. El pescador fue al mar con miedo.

    The fisherman went to the sea with fear.

19. El mar estaba gris y muy agitado.

    The sea was grey and very rough.

20. El pez cumplió el deseo y ella se convirtió en emperatriz.

    The fish granted the wish and she became empress.

21. Ahora ella tenía todo el poder.

    Now she had all the power.

22. Pero quería más. Quería ser como Dios.

    But she wanted more. She wanted to be like God.

23. El pescador no quería pedir eso, pero lo hizo.

    The fisherman didn’t want to ask for that, but he did.

24. El mar estaba negro y el viento era fuerte.

    The sea was black and the wind was strong.

25. El pez no respondió nada.

    The fish didn’t answer anything.

26. Cuando el pescador volvió, el palacio había desaparecido.

    When the fisherman returned, the palace was gone.

27. La esposa estaba de nuevo en la vieja cabaña.

    The wife was back in the old hut.

28. Y así vivieron como al principio.

    And so they lived like at the beginning.

29. Habían perdido todo por querer demasiado.

    They had lost everything for wanting too much.
