Dawno temu był sobie rybak i jego żona.
Once upon a time, there was a fisherman and his wife.
Mieszkali w małej chatce nad morzem.
They lived in a small hut near the sea.
Rybak codziennie chodził nad morze na ryby.
The fisherman went to the sea every day to fish.
Pewnego dnia złapał magiczną rybę.
One day, he caught a magic fish.
Ryba potrafiła mówić i poprosiła, by ją uwolnił.
The fish could talk and asked to be set free.
Rybak wpuścił rybę z powrotem do wody.
The fisherman put the fish back in the water.
Kiedy wrócił do domu, opowiedział to swojej żonie.
When he returned home, he told his wife.
Ona powiedziała mu, żeby poprosił o lepszy dom.
She told him to ask for a nicer house.
Rybak wrócił nad morze i zawołał rybę.
The fisherman went back to the sea and called the fish.
Ryba spełniła życzenie.
The fish granted the wish.
Teraz mieszkali w ładnym domu.
Now they lived in a nice house.
Ale wkrótce żona chciała pałac.
But soon the wife wanted a palace.
Poprosiła rybaka, by znów porozmawiał z rybą.
She asked the fisherman to talk to the fish again.
Ryba dała im duży, piękny pałac.
The fish gave them a big, beautiful palace.
Mieli służących i eleganckie ubrania.
They had servants and fancy clothes.
Ale żona nadal nie była szczęśliwa.
But the wife still was not happy.
Chciała być cesarzową.
She wanted to be empress.
Rybak poszedł nad morze z lękiem.
The fisherman went to the sea with fear.
Morze było szare i bardzo wzburzone.
The sea was grey and very rough.
Ryba spełniła życzenie i ona została cesarzową.
The fish granted the wish and she became empress.
Teraz miała całą władzę.
Now she had all the power.
Ale chciała więcej. Chciała być jak Bóg.
But she wanted more. She wanted to be like God.
Rybak nie chciał o to prosić, ale to zrobił.
The fisherman didn’t want to ask for that, but he did.
Morze było czarne, a wiatr był silny.
The sea was black and the wind was strong.
Ryba nic nie odpowiedziała.
The fish didn’t answer anything.
Kiedy rybak wrócił, pałac zniknął.
When the fisherman returned, the palace was gone.
Żona była z powrotem w starej chatce.
The wife was back in the old hut.
I tak żyli jak na początku.
And so they lived like at the beginning.
Stracili wszystko przez zbytnią chciwość.
They had lost everything for wanting too much.
