Once upon a time, there was a fisherman and his wife.
Había una vez un pescador y su esposa.
They lived in a small hut near the sea.
Vivían en una pequeña cabaña cerca del mar.
The fisherman went to the sea every day to fish.
El pescador iba todos los días al mar a pescar.
One day, he caught a magic fish.
Un día, atrapó un pez mágico.
The fish could talk and asked to be set free.
El pez podía hablar y pidió que lo dejara libre.
The fisherman put the fish back in the water.
El pescador dejó al pez en el agua.
When he returned home, he told his wife.
Cuando volvió a casa, le contó a su esposa.
She told him to ask for a nicer house.
Ella le dijo que pidiera una casa mejor.
The fisherman went back to the sea and called the fish.
El pescador volvió al mar y llamó al pez.
The fish granted the wish.
El pez cumplió el deseo.
Now they lived in a nice house.
Ahora vivían en una casa bonita.
But soon the wife wanted a palace.
Pero pronto la esposa quiso un palacio.
She asked the fisherman to talk to the fish again.

The fish gave them a big, beautiful palace.

They had servants and fancy clothes.

But the wife still was not happy.

She wanted to be empress.

The fisherman went to the sea with fear.

The sea was grey and very rough.

The fish granted the wish and she became empress.
El pez cumplió el deseo y ella se convirtió en emperatriz.
Now she had all the power.
Ahora ella tenía todo el poder.
But she wanted more. She wanted to be like God.
Pero quería más. Quería ser como Dios.
The fisherman didn’t want to ask for that, but he did.
El pescador no quería pedir eso, pero lo hizo.
The sea was black and the wind was strong.
El mar estaba negro y el viento era fuerte.
The fish didn’t answer anything.
El pez no respondió nada.
When the fisherman returned, the palace was gone.
Cuando el pescador volvió, el palacio había desaparecido.
The wife was back in the old hut.

And so they lived like at the beginning.
Y así vivieron como al principio.
They had lost everything for wanting too much.
