1. Paweł i Gaweł w jednym stali domu,

   Paweł and Gaweł lived in the same house,

2. Paweł na górze, a Gaweł na dole,

   Paweł upstairs, and Gaweł downstairs,

3. Paweł spokojny, nie wadził nikomu,

   Paweł was calm and bothered no one,

4. Gaweł najdziksze wymyślał swawole.

   Gaweł invented the wildest mischief.

5. Ciągle polował po swoim pokoju:

   He was constantly hunting in his room:

6. To pies, to zając — między stoły, stołki

   A dog, a hare — between tables and stools

7. Gonił, uciekał, wywracał koziołki,

   He chased, ran, flipped somersaults,

8. Strzelał i trąbił i krzyczał do znoju.

   He shot and blew horns and yelled to exhaustion.

9. Znosił to Paweł, nareszcie nie może;

   Paweł endured it, but finally couldn't anymore;

10. Schodzi do Gawła i prosi w pokorze:

    He goes down to Gaweł and humbly pleads:

11. Zmiłuj się Waćpan, poluj ciszej nieco,

    Have mercy, sir, hunt a bit more quietly,

12. Bo mi na górze szyby z okien lecą.

    Because the windowpanes upstairs are falling out.

    To this Gaweł replies: Freedom, Tom,

14.  W swoim domku.

    In your own home.

15. Cóż było mówić? Paweł ani pisnął,

    What could he say? Paweł didn’t utter a word,

16. Wrócił do siebie i czapkę nacisnął.

    He returned upstairs and pulled down his cap.

17. Nazajutrz Gaweł jeszcze smacznie chrapie,

    Next day Gaweł is still snoring sweetly,

18. A tu z powały coś mu na nos kapie,

    When something from the ceiling drips onto his nose,

19. Zerwał się z łóżka i pędzi na górę:

    He jumps from bed and runs upstairs:

20. Stuk! puk! zamknięte. Spogląda przez dziurę,

    Knock! knock! locked. He peeks through a hole,

21. I widzi — cóż tam? cały pokój w wodzie,

    And sees — what’s this? the whole room under water,

22. A Paweł z wędką siedzi na komodzie.

    And Paweł is sitting on a dresser with a fishing rod.

23. — Co Waćpan robisz? — Ryby sobie łowię.

    — What are you doing, sir? — Just fishing.

24. — Ależ Mospanie, mnie kapie po głowie.

    — But good sir, it’s dripping on my head.

25. A Paweł na to: Wolnoć Tomku

    And Paweł replies: Freedom, Tom,

26.  W swoim domku.

    In your own home.
