In the courtyard by the henhouse
Krzyknął kogut — kukuryku!
The rooster crowed — cock-a-doodle-doo!
Biją skrzydła jak kańczugi,
Wings strike like whips,
Dziobią dzióby,
Beaks peck,
Drą pazury aż do skóry.
Claws scratch down to the skin.
Już krew kapie, pierze leci.
Now blood drips, feathers fly.
Z kwoczką uszedł rywal trzeci.
The third rival escaped with the hen.
A wtem indor dmuchnął:
Then the turkey puffed up:
„Hola!“
'Hold on!'
Stała się jego wola.

„O co idzie, o co chodzi?
'What's this about, what's going on?
Indor was pogodzi“.

„Niepotrzebnie się czubiło,

Obydwa z jednej zapialiście nuty,

Boście obydwa koguty“.

Kiedy głupstwo jeden powie,
When one says something foolish,
Głupstwo drugi mu odpowie;
Another replies with foolishness;
Potem płacą życiem, zdrowiem.
Then they pay with life, with health.
Co rzec na to? Wiem — nie powiem!
