1. Il était une fois un pêcheur et sa femme.

   Once upon a time, there was a fisherman and his wife.

2. Ils vivaient dans une petite cabane près de la mer.

   They lived in a small hut near the sea.

3. Le pêcheur allait tous les jours à la mer pour pêcher.

   The fisherman went to the sea every day to fish.

4. Un jour, il attrapa un poisson magique.

   One day, he caught a magic fish.

5. Le poisson pouvait parler et demanda à être libéré.

   The fish could talk and asked to be set free.

6. Le pêcheur remit le poisson dans l'eau.

   The fisherman put the fish back in the water.

7. Quand il rentra chez lui, il raconta à sa femme.

   When he returned home, he told his wife.

8. Elle lui dit de demander une maison meilleure.

   She told him to ask for a nicer house.

9. Le pêcheur retourna à la mer et appela le poisson.

   The fisherman went back to the sea and called the fish.

10. Le poisson exauça le souhait.

    The fish granted the wish.

11. Maintenant, ils vivaient dans une belle maison.

    Now they lived in a nice house.

12. Mais bientôt, la femme voulut un palais.

    But soon the wife wanted a palace.

13. Elle demanda au pêcheur de parler au poisson à nouveau.

    She asked the fisherman to talk to the fish again.

14. Le poisson leur donna un grand et beau palais.

    The fish gave them a big, beautiful palace.

15. Ils avaient des serviteurs et des vêtements élégants.

    They had servants and fancy clothes.

16. Mais la femme n'était toujours pas heureuse.

    But the wife still was not happy.

17. Elle voulait être impératrice.

    She wanted to be empress.

18. Le pêcheur alla à la mer avec peur.

    The fisherman went to the sea with fear.

19. La mer était grise et très agitée.

    The sea was grey and very rough.

20. Le poisson exauça le souhait et elle devint impératrice.

    The fish granted the wish and she became empress.

21. Maintenant, elle avait tout le pouvoir.

    Now she had all the power.

22. Mais elle voulait plus. Elle voulait être comme Dieu.

    But she wanted more. She wanted to be like God.

23. Le pêcheur ne voulait pas demander cela, mais il le fit.

    The fisherman didn’t want to ask for that, but he did.

24. La mer était noire et le vent était fort.

    The sea was black and the wind was strong.

25. Le poisson ne répondit rien.

    The fish didn’t answer anything.

26. Quand le pêcheur revint, le palais avait disparu.

    When the fisherman returned, the palace was gone.

27. La femme était de retour dans la vieille cabane.

    The wife was back in the old hut.

28. Et ainsi, ils vécurent comme au début.

    And so they lived like at the beginning.

29. Ils avaient tout perdu pour avoir voulu trop.

    They had lost everything for wanting too much.
